Throw Open Your Window

March 18, 2015

Throw open your windows.  Let the wind and sun flow through to every nook and cranny and fill your house with light and fresh spring air.  Put on some music, grab a rag, the 'green' cleaner you made yourself (see below) and clean the winter out of your house.

Ingredients you have in your home that can be used for cleaning:

Baking Soda – gentle non-abrasive for scrubbing sinks, tubs and shower stalls.  Can also be added to laundry to eliminate odors

Distilled Vinegar (or lemon juice) – a disinfectant and odor neutralizer, used in cleaning sprays

(all purpose and window) and furniture polish.  Can be added to laundry as an odor neutalizer and fabric softener.

All Purpose Cleaner:

1 cup water

1 cup distilled vinegar

1 or 2 drops Castile soap (leave the soap out if using for window washing).

Combine in a spray bottle.  Spray on surface and wipe off with a rag or sponge.

Furniture Polish:

1/4 teaspoon olive oil

1/8 cup distilled vinegar (or fresh lemon juice)

Mix ingredients in a jar.  Pour a small amount onto soft cloth and wipe onto wood

surfaces (test a small spot first).
